What makes hamburgers more franchisable than hot dogs?

  1. Hot dogs are generally not as filling as hamburgers. This makes them ideal as street foods but not for a full meal like for restaurants
  2. Americans love their beef. Hot dog weiners or sausages are usually a mix of different meats stuffed into a casing. This mystery blend of meats is somewhat less appetizing than eating a nicely grilled beef patty
  3. You can fit more into a hamburger than a hot dog. Chicago Dogs probably are the “fullest” hot dogs but it pales in comparison to the amount of fillings you can fit into a hamburger. You can have tomatoes, pickles, cheese, eggs sometimes, I’ve even seen hash brown patties in some Korean hamburger chains. Hot dog buns just can’t fit that much, reducing the varieties and profit margin.
