Here’s the problem: The NBA fanbase overrates and overhypes Kobe like crazy and they live in their own delusional world where Kobe is in the GOAT conversation, that’s why they think that any ranking where Kobe is outside the top 5 is ‘disrespectful’ even though that’s objectively where he belongs.
Here’s a recent example:
Nick Wright (NBA analyst) gives an argument that Kobe wasn’t the best in anything, so he can’t be in GOAT conversation. To me, this is a moot point because Kobe not being in the GOAT argument is just common sense, like how can you have a player in the GOAT argument with 1 MVP, 2 FMVPs, 20th all time playoffs PPG and wasn’t even the best at his own position?? Like you’d think that it’s a pretty cut and dry take right? Nope the issue is most NBA fans are Kobe fans.
So of course the arguments are calling Nick out for blasphemy and saying how Kobe >>>>>> Lebron (Which they never have any logical arguments for)
^ Like you think Kobe is the most disrespected when Lebron is killed by everyone online like this? I find the ‘LeBronze’ name calling one of the worst. They literally blame Lebron 100% for the 2004 Bronze medal even though he barely played in it, he was a rookie that played 11 minutes total and yet he gets all the blame. Meanwhile Kobe gets 100% of the credit for the 2008 gold despite Lebron actually playing more minutes and averaging more PPG, RPG and APG than Kobe in that Olympics! crazy right?
Why’s Kobe better than Bron? Well, no particular reason, but everyone will agree with this take anyways.
And this comment is a lie. Bron has a higher 3P% than Kobe does and has TWO seasons shooting above 40% from 3 while Kobe has ZERO seasons like that.
And Lebron being 16–6 against Kobe? Well you can’t say a player is better than another just because of records. And I agree. But in this case Lebron also beats in Kobe in every statistical category and in every award category except rings….
Well what about Kobe not being the best at his position? Well believe it or not, many NBA fans think Kobe is better than Jordan. yes I’m not making this up, you can see those screenshots above where all these fans ganged up on me to say that Kobe was better. Why? Well none of those ‘arguments’ make much sense. I don’t think they are even arguments they are just BS really. There’s no way Kobe played against tougher defenses than Jordan that’s just factually untrue. Being a *slightly* better 3P shooter doesn’t offset Kobe being a much more inefficient player in general. There’s a HUGE gap of 4 MVPs, 4 FMVPs, 8 scoring titles, 1 ring, DPOY etc and also a 5 PPG difference, 8 PPG in the playoffs, 5% efficiency difference etc I mean casuals just IGNORE all of this because ‘Kobe is more skilled than Jordan’ (which isnt even true, how is Kobe more skilled??). If Kobe was more skilled why didn’t he win as many awards as Jordan or average as many points? And if you look at all that regular season scoring, why can’t Kobe do that in the playoffs? Jordan is a MUCH better playoff performer. I’ve never seen him average 15 PPG in a Finals like Kobe, or have 8pts in a Finals game like Kobe, or shoot his team out of a Finals like Kobe, or blow a 3–1 lead like Kobe, or get outscored by a bench player like Kobe etc I can go on and on…
Oh wait but Kobe was a ‘carbon copy’ of Jordan? So he’s #2? Hmm wonder why we don’t that for any other NBA player. We don’t rank any other player by SKILL unless it’s Kobe. We don’t put Kyrie and Iverson and those guys in the top 10 just because of skill right? Hell Rod Strickland was hella skilled why ain’t he top 10 all time too? So it seems like ONLY with Kobe that we can rank him right behind Jordan all time because of his skill and not resume.
And if they think Kobe is better than Jordan, god forbid you tell them Lebron is better. They go apeshit on you. They call you Bronsexual, Bron dick rider etc (incredibly ironic given how many NBA casuals nuthug Kobe all the time). They make all these ridiculous excuses for Kobe. Like that guy in the screenshot above.. whenever Lebron plays with superstars he’s ‘recruiting them’ and apparently Lebron is still a toxic teammate and trades teammates despite all those players coming back to play with him. Why don’t they come back to play with Kobe? Well Kobe just wins, he holds his teammates accountable, that’s why. He toughened up his teammates. And they love to shit on Pau Gasol and say that he was a nobody scrub until Kobe showed up and made him better.
Then they say Bron had all these superstars that joined him like Dwight, Ray Allen, Melo, Rondo etc Who cares if they were past their primes? Bron had those guys and couldn’t win! Well when I pointed out that Kobe had Malone, Payton, Nash and Dwight then they get defensive and say well those guys were old when they played with Kobe! So obviously they have a double standard for Bron and aside from that, Nash and Payton were all-stars the season before joining Kobe and Dwight was All-NBA the season before joining Kobe and what do they say to that? Well when they joined Kobe is the moment they started declining LOL I mean WTF?? They will literally come up with ANY excuse for Kobe to avoid blaming him for anything. I’ve read some of the craziest excuses for Kobe. I think ‘too fatigued from carrying the Lakers to 3 Finals in a row’ as an excuse for losing to the Mavs in 2011 is also one of the most ridiculous excuses I’ve heard
Oh wait I’m ‘nitpicking’ if I bring up Payton going from 20 PPG to 14 PPG when he played with Kobe LOL but they will say Bron decreased Bosh and Loves stats etc
How about blaming the media when Kobe didn’t win those MVPs? That’s because he had a rape trial right? It’s crazy that they just completely give Kobe a pass for cheating on his wife in Colorado and then use it as an excuse why he didn’t get more MVPs. Nuts. They don’t bother to think that hmm maybe it’s because he got his team to the 8th seed that’s why?? What MVP is the 8th seed? And they list all these scoring achievements even though scoring leader doesn’t mean MVP. I mean Wilt averaged 50 PPG and wasn’t MVP. Harden averaged 36 PPG in 2019 and wasn’t MVP. Hell Luka averaged 33/9/10 last season and wasn’t MVP and none of those guys have the ‘they got robbed!!’ narrative going on. And then when Kobe won it in 2008 that’s when the media started giving it to him?It just so happened to be the year his team got good again and won 57 games? Kobe fans are really delusional aren’t they?
Yup these fans also think Bosh > Gasol. Why? To prop up Kobe and make Bron look worse of course! There’s an incentive for them to make Gasol look as bad as possible and make Bosh look as good as possible. Of course, anybody who knows basketball knows Gasol is better. Bosh couldn’t get out of the first round in the weak East, was only 1x All-NBA, is definitely not as good of a defender, shrinks in the playoffs etc
‘Kobe had no weaknesses to his game’ yet he’s 20th all time in playoffs PPG and shoots 41% in the Finals despite being ‘unguardable’ lmao ok buddy.. see all this Kobe glazing going on and nobody ever says anything about it yet when you post any kind of Lebron stat or fact then you are ‘Bron glazer Bronsexual Bron meat rider etc’ it’s ridiculous aint it??

If the screenshots I posted wasn’t proof enough, I’ll be frank and honest: Kobe fans are the worst fans in sports. And they actually make up a majority of the NBA fanbase. They literally will make excuses for Kobe for everything while giving him 100% of the credit for his wins and then nitpick Lebron like crazy and blame him for everything while giving him 0% of the credit for his wins. They will promote conspiracies about the league being against Kobe (robbed of MVP, CP3 trade etc), Their arguments are as casual as it gets (more ‘skilled’, better finals record, beat 50+ win teams etc). Then they have the nerve to throw insults at you and say you don’t know basketball and you dick ride Lebron (while they ride Kobe to the moon and back).
