First let’s get the 1997 Rockets, 2004 Lakers and 2013 Lakers out of the way. Same thing with 2021 Nets, 2022 Lakers and 2023 Suns these are all failed superteams but they are relatively recent so people kind of remember them. Let’s talk about old 80s NBA superteams nobody remembers cause they failed.
1980 Nuggets this team had Alex English, David Thompson, Dan Issel and George McGinnis. That’s 4 hall of famers. They didn’t get anywhere.
How about 1983 Suns? Dennis Johnson, Maurice Lucas, Walter Davis, Alvan Adams, Larry Nance. That’s 2 Hall of Famers (Davis got in recently) and 2 borderline hall of famers and 1 very good all star level center. They didn’t get anywhere.
How about 1984 Bucks? Sidney Moncrief, Bob Lanier, Marques Johnson and Tiny Archibald was on it. That’s 3 hall of famers and one borderline.
1985 76ers? Charles Barkley, Moses Malone, Dr J, Maurice Cheeks, Bobby Jones. 5 hall of famers.
1980 Celtics? Larry Bird, Dave Cowens, Tiny Archibald, Cedric Maxwell, Pete Maravich. That’s stacked on paper. 4 hall of famers and a finals mvp.
1986 Jazz had Adrian Dantley, Karl Malone, John Stockton and Mark Eaton. 3 Hall of famers and a 2x DPOY.
People forget how stacked the 1980s were especially after the influx of ABA talent there were superteams throughout the NBA at that time.
