No, really that’s it. Cause casual NBA fans care the most about scoring so they look at Kobe’s 35 PPG and Nash’s 18 PPG and go.. well Kobe’s is almost double, he should be the MVP even though he was 8th seed and Nash was the first seed (and would later beat Kobe in the playoffs that season proving that he deserved that MVP).
MVP is NOT scoring title. Unfortunately other NBA players also look at scoring as well, and that’s why guys like Shaq are also bitter about losing MVP to Nash, cause they feel that scoring more points makes them more valuable.
Nash’s impact was more than just PPG he was the focal point of a very fast paced offense and he was the main engine of that offense – Amar’e Stoudemire was often the recipient and the two were the best pick and roll partners since Stockton and Malone. It’s kind of similar to how people think Wilt should have gotten MVP over Russell because Wilt scored a lot more points. The game is impacted in ways other than just scoring – casuals won’t understand that.
