What kind of beer is best?

Very broad, general question.

I’ve tried over 100+ brands of mass marketed export beer. I’ve excluded craft beer because while in general craft beer is far superior to mass marketed beer but it’s also difficult to find unless you are in those specific areas.

So this is my ranking of 100 different exported beers from different countries. I can go only by what I’ve tried so far.

Canada: Molson is the major exported brand. It’s pretty similar level to Miller High Draft I would say. Which means it’s not very good. Creemore and Moosehead and Steam Whistle are just ok. Labatt and Kokanee are both not very good either. The best Canadian exported beer would probably be Steam Whistle *but its sorta craft beer ish).

USA: I’ve tried Coors, Budweiser, Miller, Pabst, Colt 45, Old Milwaukee, Blue Moon. None of these are good. Coors, Budweiser and Pabst especially are some of the worst beers I’ve ever had. It’s barley flavored water essentially. Goose Island.. average. Only Big Wave (Hawaii) and Brooklyn Lager I think was pretty decent and solid both those are more on the craftier side.

Mexico: Corona, Modelo and Dos Equis are solid beers. I don’t mind having Mexican beers because they are usually superior to any mass market Canadian or USA beer.

China: Some of the best beers I’ve had are from China. I’ll include Taiwan for the sake of brevity here. Taiwan, Harbin, Macau, Qingdao (wheat is the best if available), Yanjing, Laoshan are all great. A tier or S tier beers. The only subpar China beer I’ve had is Snow which is not that good.

Japan: All average to solid. Sapporo, Orion and Asahi are ok and average. Kirin is a level above in flavor and pretty solid. Hitachino Nest, Yebisu, Suntory and Spring Valley if you can find them are all solid beers as well.

Korea: Mostly terrible to ok. CASS, HITE, OB – avoid. Kloud is average. Terra and Kelly are actually pretty decent and solid.

SE Asia: In general mostly bad. All way too light. Tiger (Singapore), Beerlao (Laos), Lion (Sri Lanka), Chang (Thailand), San Miguel (Phillipines) yuck. The only decent ones were Singha (Thailand) and San Miguel Blanc version.

Mongolia: Golden Gobi.. meh. Below average.

Australia: Coopers is very good. Both the regular and dark versions are solid. Love Coopers.

Ireland: Guiness is awful. Murphys is fine. Harps is fine. None are great.

Spain: Estrella Damm is just average. However Inedit Damm is pretty good.

Italy: Peroni and Birra Moretti just average.

France: 1664 Kronenbourg is one of my favorite beers. Damn amazing. Never met anyone who didn’t like 1664.

Czech: Czechvar and Praga are average. PilsnerUrquell, Litovel, Staropramen and Kozel are pretty good and solid.

Holland: Heineken and Bavaria are average. Hollandia is pretty decent. Grolsch is probably my favorite.

Denmark: Carlsberg and Faxe are solid. Tuborg is pretty amazing.

Belgium: Stella is pretty well known and it’s pretty solid. Leffe Brown, Hoegaarden and Rodenbach are probably my favorites though.

Turkey: Efes.. is fine. It’s decent.

Austria: I love Edelweiss. Great beer. S tier. Ottakringer is pretty good. Gosser is just ok.

Lithuania: Volfras Engelmann is pretty solid, love all their flavors especially their Blanc and Unfiltered versions.

England: Smithwicks is mid. Samuel Smith and Old Speckled Hen just ok. Probably my favorite English exported beer is Innis and Gunn.

Bulgaria: Shumensko malt is probably my favorite. Kamenitza is ok. Zagorka mid.

Romania: Timisoreana.. not that great.

Poland: Zywieck, Zatecky, Perla, Okocim.. all mid.

India: Bira 91.. below average. Reminds me of Blue Moon.

Germany: I saved the best for last. German beers at minimum are very solid to amazing. Warsteiner, Erdinger, Becks, Kaiserdom, Radeberger, DAB are all solid. Gaffel Kolsch, Veltins, Hacker-Pschorr, Krombacher, Holsten, SchneiderWeisse, Weizenkonig, Eichbaum, Bitburger, Lowenbrau and especially Paulaner are all great.
