Should Barry Bonds be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame?

Bill Simmons did a good podcast about this topic.

The main arguments why Barry Bonds should be in the Hall of Fame comes down to 2 main points:

  1. For the people who say that only ‘morally good’ guys should be in the Hall of Fame: There’s already guys like Cap Anson (who is basically the reason why the league stopped letting black players play until Jackie Robinson broke the racial barrier), Rogers Hornsby, Ty Cobb etc in the Hall of Fame who are not great people.
  2. For the people who say PEDs gave an unfair advantage or that Bonds, Clemens, McGwire etc broke the rules – well the MLB didn’t have any rules on PEDs until the mid 2000s. It’s not a Pete Rose situation where he knew he was breaking a rule. There was no established rule. And if you’re going to call guys like Babe Ruth the GOAT, or Lou Gehrig etc these guys played against segregated competition. How’s that not an unfair advantage just like PEDs?

So yes I think Barry Bonds, along with Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Roger Clemens etc should be inducted. Alex Rodriguez is more of an interesting case because he broke the rules while the MLB actually tested for PEDs, which is a different case. And David Ortiz already got in.
