I’d consider it slightly overrated actually.
Bosh was a perenial all-star for the Toronto Raptors in the mid 2000s – NOT a very good team. He was able to put up pretty respectable numbers on that team because he was a decent star level player who had a post game and a midrange game and who could give you 20/10 playing for a bad team. Is he a franchise defining superstar who can take you far in the playoffs? No. Losing in the first round twice with Toronto (in the weaker East mind you) is proof of that.
He’s actually even less of a superstar than Tmac is. Even though Tmac couldn’t get past the first round in the East too at least he made way more All-NBA selections than Bosh and led the league in scoring twice. Bosh has a single All-NBA selection in his entire career (and it’s 2nd team).
He’s an 11x All-Star sure – but that reflects his popularity more so than his actual ability. The discrepancy in All-Star and All-NBA selections (11x vs 1x) reflects how overrated he is. It literally means the public thinks much more highly of him than the analysts and media do. This is similar to Melo’s career as well except even Melo had more All-NBA selections!
Bosh’s career is entirely saved because he played with Bron in Miami. If not for that – his entire career would be 2 first round exits that’s it. After Bron left, he couldn’t make the playoffs again. And with Miami he has almost no big games to speak of. Some Bron haters say he’s better or same level as Gasol well tell me when has Bosh ever grabbed 19 rebounds in a Game 7 ( Gasol – 2009 vs Rockets) or 18 rebounds in a Game 7 (Gasol – 2010 Finals) or scored 33 to close out a playoff team (Gasol – 2010 vs Jazz). Bosh is not even close to Gasol. Bosh’s only memorable playoff moment is his rebound to Allen in the 2013 Finals Game 6. That’s it. The guy was consistently outplayed in the playoffs by everyone. Old KG. Old Duncan. Joakim Noah. Roy Hibbert. Everyone had their way with Bosh.
Bosh reached the Hall of Fame due to his 2 rings with the Heat (thanks to Bron and Wade) and his popularity (11 all star appearances), rather than his actual ability to carry any teams. Amar’e Stoudemire deserves the HoF more than Bosh (5x All-NBA) and yet still hasn’t got in yet.
