This is an IEM that got a decent amount of hype online last year and it’s IceLabs flagship from an HK company that not many knew about. It’s an 8 driver 1DD, 1BCD, 4BA, 2EST implementation with alot of custom drivers in it. It retails for $2000 USD. I drove the Spectrumica (which requires a bit more power than your typical IEM, similar to Myth) with a Lotoo Paw Gold Touch using the bundled mica cable.
It’s got nice packaging with a solid aluminum carrying case with a unique design, a solid metal certificate card, IEM sock, lanyard, microfiber cloth and 8 pairs of eartips.
The IEM itself is very solid with aluminum shell and a unique speaker woofer like structure on the faceplate.
Bass:
The bass of Spectrumica is very nicely textured and detailed and has good subbass extension. It definitely has more sub bass than mid bass with the mid bass feeling a bit polite and restrained.
Mids:
Mids are not forward but rather laid back especially for people coming from IEMs with the elevated upper mids, however it doesn’t mean the mids are recessed and instead you’ll still notice good detail and layering with the mids as well. It’s not necessarily the most noticeable part of this IEM and some might find the mids a bit too ‘polite’ but there’s no denying the quality of the mids is there, just restrained.
Treble:
The treble leans energetic and has a lot of clarity and detail but at the same time doesn’t sound too harsh or fatiguing. Another way to say it is that if you take one of those ‘polite’ ‘safe’ IEMs like FiiO FX17 or UM Mest Jet Black with more balanced tuning and you add just a *hint* more treble energy to them, then that’s what Spectrumica has. It has just the right amount of treble without sounding harsh or fatiguing.
Technicalities:
Soundstage is probably a weaker part of this IEM as it sounds like a typical $2k IEM soundstage width. Now it’s not overly narrow or anything, but the soundstage won’t wow people if they are used to other $2k IEMs. Tia Trio for just a bit more has noticeably wider soundstage for example. Detail and resolution are some of the best on a $2k IEM so it’s got very good resolving ability for its price.
Overall, this is a very well tuned IEM and decent technicalities that should please most people. It’s somehow an IEM that feels like it’s not too boring but also doesn’t try to be too exciting (like Mysticraft Myth or IE900) at the same time. That’s an interesting balance that I don’t commonly find in many IEMs and for that I have to say this is one of the best listens I’ve had for a $2k IEM.
